At the end of the webinar the participant will be able to:

• show the connection between IP crime and serious organised crime, focused on its financial characteristics;
• present the programme of training and cooperation with national judges and prosecutors in charge of IPR infringement in the EU and beyond;
• explore various ways to render IPR infringement criminal law suits more attractive to Prosecutors´ offices and to boost and potentially make more deterrent the resulting criminal court conviction;
• introduce Internet related issues and the impact of new disruptive and transformative technologies.

Based on a number of successful poly-criminality investigations and prosecution, the presentation draws the attention to key best practices to get inspired by.

At the end of the webinar the participant will be able to:

• equip law enforcement officials with the knowledge of a number of practical, applicable techniques of open-source intelligence (OSINT) and provide basic knowledge on OSINT methodology;
• present an overview of resources available on the SIRIUS platform;
• familiarise law enforcement officials with Europol’s toolkit/ capabilities and the use of shared tailor made tools on internet investigations.

Early last year, the emergence and spread of a new virus-based illness arrived at European shores; few observer in the media or law enforcement were in position to foresee the impact the COVID-19 pandemic would have on daily lives of citizens and law enforcement professionals alike. While governments attempt to keep control of a quickly deteriorating public-health situation by introducing restrictions on free movement, consumer trade and assembly in private and public areas, police and other law enforcement bodies had no choice but to adopt to the disruption of social and professional routines and to enforce previously unimaginable novel rules of “social distancing” and “mask-wearing” on a large scale. In the series of previous CEPOL COVID-webinars some light have been shed on the opportunities for serious and less-serious crime created by the “New Normal” of the pandemic condition and the ways European law enforcement officials having tried to react.

Following up on presentations of research- and analysis based facts & finding made by experts from Europol, Michigan State University, Heidelberg University and University of Grenoble in CEPOL-Webinar 1/2020 (“(Almost) A Year of Policing the Pandemic”) on 28 January, this webinar will focus on conclusions and recommendations deriving from scientific surveys, studies and dedicated analysis of the impact the pandemic had on law enforcement institutions, officers and relations with the general public. Experienced officials and distinguished scholars will present from multi-disciplinary perspectives.

The overall objective of this webinar is to inform participants on the outcome of recent analysis and research surveys.

The aim of this webinar is to increase law enforcement capabilities to design and implement soft target action plans concerning major events and to improve first responders’ professional skills on safeguarding targets and public places by exploring the possibilities of cooperation with the private sector and the civil society.

At the end of the webinar the participant will be able to:

• Identify the challenges and difficulties concerning the design and implementation of action plans for major events;
• Recognise the effectiveness of a coordinated multidimensional approach and cooperation with the private sector to prevent terrorists / extremists attacks;
• Underline lessons learned and best practices from successful public-private partnerships operations.

The aim of this webinar is to enhance the competence in leading the change management process in the context of EU Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) missions/operations.

At the end of the webinar the participant will be able to:

• Explain the importance of change management to the success of EU CSDP missions/operations;
• Analyse the need for change management;
• Describe the dynamics and issues in implementing and enabling a change process.

The webinar is organised by the European Union Agency for the Operational Management of Large-Scale IT Systems in the Area of Freedom, Security and Justice (eu-LISA), in collaboration with CEPOL.

The webinar provides introduction to the Visa Information System - Biometric Matching System (VIS-BMS). Upon completion of the activity the participants will have an overall overview of the system, its architecture and functionalities.
