CEPOL course 46/2014 - Awareness on Security Sector Reform (SSR)

Twenty-eight senior police officers from 17 European countries attended the Centre of Excellence for Stability Police Units (COESPU) in Vicenza, Italy for the CEPOL course “Awareness on Security Sector Reform” on 9 - 11 June 2014.

This short but intense course focused on the police domains of SSR that have been presented in the general framework of the European Union Common Security Defence Policy (CSDP) architecture and the different approaches to the reform of security systems as carried out by EU, UN and NATO.

Lecturers from the Centre for Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF), the European External Action Service (EEAS), the Italian army’s Post Conflict Operations Study Centre (PCOSC), St. Anna University of Pisa and COESPU; covered several doctrinal and practical aspects of SSR missions from planning to implementation in the field.

COESPU is an international training centre managed by the Italian Carabinieri Corps that brings together police officers from more than 40 countries for peacekeeping mission deployments and in recent years has hosted several CEPOL training activities related to the external action of the Union.
