From 7 to 11 September the Portuguese Escola da Guarda (School of Guard) organised the CEPOL course 55/2015 “Train the Civilian Crisis Management Mission trainers”. 22 senior police officers from 17 EU Member States and Associated countries attended this course. The aim of the activity was to improve participants’ qualification as trainers in crisis management international missions.

After the opening ceremony and an icebreaker exercise, the course started with lectures on topics such as adult learning methodologies and the profile and skills of a trainer. Experts from Belgium, Spain, the Netherlands and Portugal also set up on the first day a practical exercise about intercultural communication challenges at Common Security Defence Policy (CSDP) missions. The second day focused on the planning process of both a CSDP mission and the training of deployed staff.

During the last two days of the course, participants were able to put into practice the knowledge acquired so far, discussed modern training methods and techniques and attended a presentation on the pre-deployment training model from Belgium.
