The meeting to handover the chairmanship of CEPOL’s Governing Board has taken place in Vilnius, Lithuania attended by the delegations from Ireland (outgoing chair), Lithuania (incoming chair), Greece (assuming chair after Lithuania) and CEPOL. Delegations included Governing Board members and Dr Ferenc Bánfi, Director of CEPOL.

On 1 July 2013 Lithuania will take over the Presidency of the Council of the EU and on this date also take over chairmanship of CEPOL’s Governing Board.

Tomas Bikmanas, Head of Human Resources Board of the Police Department under the Ministry of Interior, identified enhanced cooperation between the EU and Eastern Partnership countries as a presidency priority, citing CEPOL’s European Police Exchange Programme as an example of CEPOL’s expanding outreach to these countries. Mr Bikmanas said, ‘This programme enables the officers from diverse European law-enforcement institutions to exchange positive experience, cooperate effectively in the process of crime investigation, create and maintain common European police culture’.

e-Learning will also be a priority for the Lithuanian Presidency, with particular focus on further facilitating the exchange of best practices and expert knowledge through CEPOL’s electronic network.
