Webinar 05/2016 Excise smuggling

This webinar will focus on the exploitation of the external community transit procedure related to fraudulent movements of excise goods (“T1 fraud”), which has become one of the most threatening forms of excise smuggling (mainly cigarettes) in Europe. Experts from Belgium and the UK will describe the existing modus operandi of organised crime groups, and will identify techniques to tackle this type of crime by presenting recent real cases.

The aim of this activity is to improve the knowledge of senior police and customs officers on combatting tobacco smuggling and on modern prevention, control and investigation techniques in this field. The course will focus on tracking and tracing cigarette smuggling, cooperation with the tobacco industry, the impact of technological innovations in this area and the European dimension of the anti-smuggling effort.
