The objectives of the webinar is to improve performance of law enforcement officers by enhancing awareness of the internet as a crime-enabling factor in the areas of migrant smuggling and human trafficking as well as related document fraud, in particular with a focus on:

  • The recruitment of would-be migrants and trafficking victims on social media;
  • The large-scale promotion of stolen and fraudulently obtained genuine documents for use of illegal immigration;
  • The use of such documents for the look-alike method in migrant smuggling activities;
  • Messaging services for ease of communication and arranging payments from third countries, and for promoting mass migrant movements;
  • The use of “burner apps” and virtually created phone numbers that allow hart-to-trace communication and complicate investigations.
