From 4 to 7 July, Croatia hosted the CEPOL course 78/2016 "Hate crimes". Participants gained knowledge on identifying hate crimes and on taking appropriate actions to investigate these crimes.

Trainers from the police, NGOs and the government sector, as well as representatives from FRA and ODIHR/OSCE discussed how to understand and define hate crimes, potential reasons and indicators, as well as how to improve capacity building and policing in this field.

Participants learnt examples of reporting systems and hate crime data collection from the United Kingdom, as well as the Polish experience in combatting hate crime.

The organisers were confident that this activity will contribute to combat intolerance, which requires a joint response from governments, international organisations and the civil society.
