Thanks to a joint procurement with the Italian Centre of Excellence Altiero Spinelli, CEPOL and the European Judicial Training Network (EJTN) organised course 8/2017 “migration flows – combating OCGs on Mediterranean routes” at the University of Rome Tre, from Tuesday 17 October to Friday 20 October 2017.

The course targeted a blended audience of Prosecutors, judges and Law Enforcement officials involved in criminal investigations related to migrant smuggling. 38 participants combined their efforts over the 3-days workshop to resolve a complex smuggling case based on real facts.

Experts from Europol, Eurojust, Frontex, Interpol and private partner Western Union, together with the EMPACT FII Driver and representatives from the prosecution of Austria, Italy and Spain supported the participants in their investigations.

Two CEPOL/EJTN courses on migration (combating OCGs on Mediterranean and Western Balkans routes) have been included in the EMPACT Facilitation of Immigration Operational Action Plan (OAP) for 2017 ; these activities intend to improve competences in cross border investigations on migrant smuggling, also and mostly they aim at promoting proactive criminal and financial investigations involving the resources of EU agencies, the use of the JITs instrument, the seizure and confiscation of criminal assets etc.
