CEPOL Management Board elects new Chair and Deputy Chair as of 1 January 2022
24 November 2021

The 7th online CEPOL Management Board meeting took place on 24 November online, a decision taken recently due to the deteriorating pandemic situation in many of the EU Member States. The meeting was initially planned to take place in Slovenia, currently holding the Presidency of the Council of the EU.

The Management Board was honoured by the presence of the Slovenian Minister of Interior, H.E. Aleš Hojs, who took the floor at the opening to welcome the participants on behalf of the Slovenian EU Presidency. The Minister expressed his support to CEPOL’s mission, vision and values and underlined the importance of law enforcement training and cooperation between the EU Member States and institutions within this scope to successfully tackle security threats. Minister Hojs concluded his intervention by thanking the other members of the current trio presidency, Germany and Portugal, for their support and cooperation during the past 18 months, while wishing every success to the incoming trio presidency (France, Czech Republic, Sweden).

Chaired by Mr José Leitão, Head of the Higher Institute of Police Sciences and Internal Security in Portugal, the meeting allowed the adoption of the CEPOL Single Programming Document for 2022, CEPOL’s main annual planning instrument. It also provided the opportunity to update members on CEPOL’s upcoming Chairmanship of the Justice and Home Affairs Network in 2022, as well as the work of the agency’s Expert Groups and CEPOL Knowledge Centres. During the meeting, France also presented the priorities of the upcoming French EU Presidency.

An important highlight of yesterday’s online CEPOL Management Board meeting, was the election of the new Chair and Deputy chair, who will assume their responsibilities on the 1st of January 2022. Mr Philippe Durand, Deputy head of the International Security Cooperation Directorate of the French Ministry of the Interior will be the new Chair of the CEPOL Management Board and Mr Jan Pechacek, Head of Division of International Education and Training of the Police of the Czech Republic, will be the new Deputy chair.
