Important announcement concerning the CEPOL Research and Science Conference 2024/2025

After careful consideration, and measured consultations together with the Guardia di Finanza Economic and Financial Police School, CEPOL has decided to postpone the next Research and Science Conference. The event, themed Tackling the world of High-Risk Criminal Networks (HRCN), will now take place from 25 to 27 March 2025 in Ostia, Rome.
Registration for the conference will open soon.
The participants will have a chance to engage in scientific conversations on current trends, challenges, best practices, and opportunities to disrupt and dismantle HRCN, as an EMPACT (European Multidisciplinary Platform Against Criminal Threats) priority. In effect, the shared knowledge will significantly strengthen the effectiveness of multidisciplinary collaboration against High-Risk Criminal Networks - HRCN at the political, judicial, and law enforcement levels. The conference also aims to bring together public and private sector representatives (from the tech industry) focused on combatting those networks. Sessions will include a separate section with media reporters and panel discussions with law enforcement professionals, judges, prosecutors, criminology journalists, NGOs, and victims of crimes.
CEPOL has received a large number of high-quality paper proposals, which ensures that the conference will be an excellent opportunity for a multidisciplinary collaboration among leading academics, researchers, and practitioners. Experts from the fields of criminology, criminalistics, sociology, psychology, engineering, informatics, economics, law, and political science will be sharing their insights on fighting HRCN. Participants will also be able to meet the editors of the most prestigious academic publications who will participate in the event together with CEPOL, offering our European Law Enforcement Research Bulletin.
More information regarding the conference and the programme will soon be available on the event’s page .
The conference, originally scheduled to take place from 22 to 24 October 2024, had to be postponed to March 2025 due to a cyberattack on CEPOL’s IT infrastructure earlier this year. As a result, CEPOL had to implement necessary mitigation measures, leading to delay. Although the Agency is functioning, and critical systems are gradually being restored, the disruption impeded several preparatory stages for the conference. In order to ensure the highest quality for participants and maintain the event's prestige, the decision for rescheduling was made. The location remains unchanged; the event will take place at the premises of the Guardia di Finanza Economic and Financial Police School in Ostia, Italy.
