Reinforcing the protection of fundamental rights in law enforcement work cannot be achieved through training alone, but training is an essential component in achieving this goal. Fundamental rights is a cross-cutting element that should be integrated in each and every training activity. Towards that ambition, the Agency cooperates with key EU bodies, international organisations and other relevant stakeholders.
With CEPOL, EU law enforcement officials reflect on ethical values, shared standards for the use of force and the rule of law. To accelerate the improvement of CEPOL’s approach to fundamental rights in law enforcement work, a dedicated expert group was established in 2021 to develop a more structured and strategic approach to fundamental rights training.
CEPOL’s offer on fundamental rights has evolved considerably over the last years, moving from an initial two-step activity on hate crime and victim protection to the wide range of classroom-type and asynchronous web-based training products on various subjects available today.
