Serious and organised crime represents a significant threat to the safety of EU citizens, businesses and institutions and undermines the rule of law. Criminals easily operate across borders, which creates a need for consistent European–level action.
EU institutions, agencies and Member States work together to tackle organised and serious international crime through a permanent and key instrument: the European Multidisciplinary Platform Against Criminal Threats (EMPACT). As part of this cooperation platform, CEPOL supports Members States to prevent and fight serious and organised crime by enhancing cross-border cooperation through standardised and specialised training in areas such as trafficking in human beings, drug crimes, facilitation of illegal immigration or environmental crime.
