Official visit of CEPOL Executive Director to Egypt marks the start of a strengthened cooperation

From 19-21 September 2023, a CEPOL delegation headed by Executive Director, Montserrat Marín Lopez had a series of productive high-level discussions with law enforcement authorities in Cairo. The delegation met with existing and new CEPOL partners to explore different opportunities of collaborating in the future. This official visit marks the beginning of a strengthened cooperation in the field of law enforcement training between CEPOL and Egypt.

The Director-General of CCCPA (Cairo International Centre for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding), H.E. Ambassador Ahmed Abdel-Latif, and representatives of Al-Azhar Observatory for Combating Extremism, to explore the field of cooperation in Preventing Radicalisation and Extremism Leading to Terrorism (PRELT), Transnational Threats, Reintegration, Women and Security.
The Secretary General of AIMC (Arab Interior Ministers’ Council), Dr. Mohammad Bin Ali Kuman, and the Vice President for External Relations of NAUSS (Naif Arab University for Security Sciences), Khalid bin Abdulaziz Alharfash. All parties reiterated their strong commitment to strengthen the fight against terrorism and organised crime.
The Director General for International Cooperation/Ministry of Interior. The Ministry of Interior is CEPOL’s principal partner in the country. Discussions evolved around strengthening cooperation during capacity building activities, such as the EUROMED Police project, while possible additional ways of cooperation were explored. The delegation also visited the National Police Academy, where they were briefed about the main portfolio of the academy.
The CEPOL representatives also visited the European Union Delegation to Egypt, where they met with the Head of the Delegation, H.E. Ambassador Cristian Berger. On this occasion, Ms Marín Lopez reiterated the agency’s commitment to continue implementing jointly capacity-building activities, with the aim to support Egypt in its fight against organised crime and terrorism.
