CEPOL successfully completed course 17/2026/ONS: Financial Analysis and Investigation – Protection of EU Funds
. Held at the Agency’s headquarters in Budapest between 4 and 8 May 2026, the activity welcomed 26 participants from 18 EU Member States and Ukraine, alongside 11 trainers and experts representing law enforcement, judicial, and international partner organisations.
The aim of this training was to strengthen operational capacities for the protection of the EU’s financial interests, with a particular focus on financial investigations related to fraud affecting EU funds. The programme addressed topics such as analytical tools, corruption prevention, behavioural analysis, room search techniques, cryptocurrency investigations, international cooperation, and asset seizure, combining interactive presentations with practical exercises and workshops.
Throughout the course, experts from three EU Member States (BE, DE, NL), as well as from EPPO, OLAF, Eurojust, CEPOL, INTERPOL, HMRC , FBI and the U.S. Embassy in Hungary enriched the discussions with diverse perspectives and specialised knowledge, enhancing the learning journey of our participants. By fostering cooperation and the exchange of expertise among EU agencies, international organisations, and partner countries, the activity also contributed to strengthening a network of law enforcement professionals committed to combatting financial crime and fraud affecting public funds.

EMPACT training activity
Combatting new forms of organised crime requires more cooperation between police and gendarmes, customs officers, border guards, judges, and prosecutors. EU institutions, agencies and Member States work together to tackle organised and serious international crime through a permanent and key instrument: the European Multidisciplinary Platform Against Criminal Threats (EMPACT).
CEPOL plays a crucial role in the EMPACT mechanism through the provision of specialised training and the identification of training needs within each common security threat. Every year, CEPOL provides a comprehensive training package for each common EU crime priority consisting of onsite, online and exchange training activities.
