Illegal, unauthorised fishing and overfishing reduces the biodiversity of seas, rivers and lakes, severely damaging the marine ecosystems and directly endangering the global food supply. The overall objective of this online training event is to exchange operational practices concerning the prevention, detection and investigation of illegal fishing to enhance enforcement response in this vital field. The webinar will discuss intelligence tools, technological solutions on high seas surveillance, collaboration with fisheries authorities, verification of fisheries documentation, cross-border cooperation with EU and third countries and other relevant topics.
During the event Spanish and Italian colleagues will demonstrate how they conduct investigations and law enforcement operations via concrete case studies. Additionally an expert from the European Fisheries Control Agency (EFCA) will share the EU perspective on illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing in general, discuss Integrated Maritime Service (IMS) combining AIS and VMS and talk about capacity building projects for EU enforcement officers.
Environmental crime specialists, dealing with the intelligence collection, analysis, investigation and law enforcement operations targeting illegal fishing activities. Police, coast guard, border guard and judiciary officers are all equally welcome.
