Austrian Minister of Interior welcomes participants of CEPOL's Pan European Football Security course

Austrian Minister of the Interior personally welcomed the participants, trainers and experts of the CEPOL Course 61/2020 on “Pan European Football Security” at his office.

Last week the Federal Police Academy of the Ministry of the Interior in Austria implemented the CEPOL Course 61/2020 on “Pan European Football Security”. The activity took place from 2 to 6 March in the Police Academy in Vienna, Austria. The overall aim of this training activity was to enhance safety and security by increasing the effectiveness and harmonisation of the policing of football matches with an international dimension within Europe.

On 5 March 2020 the Austrian Minister of the Interior, Mr Karl Nehammer (first row in the middle) welcomed 52 Police football commanders, spotters, intelligence officers and representatives from the National Football Information Points (NFIP) coming from 26 EU Member States and Turkey as well as the team of trainers and experts from the EU Think Tank on football security at his office. During his welcome speech he stressed the importance of working very close together and sharing experience as well as best practice on the topic of Football safety and security within Europe. Moreover he highlighted the professional work which will be carried out by all the participants in their home countries in order to guarantee a high level of safety and security during football events. In this context he wished the participants all the best for their different tasks and responsibilities in the context of the preparation and implementation of the upcoming tournament - the European Football Championship 2020 – form an safety and security perspective.

The interactive learning process of this CEPOL activity includes inter alia topics like: Use & Risks of Pyrotechnics, Inclusion and Exclusion - Football Supporters a European perspectives, Role of Police in Stadia, Policing Football Matches with an international dimension, Understanding & managing risks crowd dynamics and a Stadium tour to and with the local football commander and Security officer of the Vienna Football club “Austria Wien”.
