CEPOL course on combatting illegal immigration

From 24 to 26 May, the Swedish National Police Academy organised the course 01/2016 "Combatting illegal immigration". The aim of the course was to enhance participants' knowledge and competences on Organised Crime Groups (OCGs) cases, and to explore the main transnational investigation techniques as well as developments and initiatives taken at EU level to combat illegal immigration.

Among the topics covered at the course were the following:

  • the EU policy framework to address irregular migration;
  • the latest trends on routes and modus operandi for human smuggling;
  • challenges in developing and implementing evidence-based border policing methods;
  • a case study of a recent human smuggling investigation;
  • how EU agencies can support transnational cooperation in investigations;
  • the importance of training in asylum law for border police.
