CEPOL course on Excise Fraud has kicked off in Lisbon!

The CEPOL course 27/2022 on Excise Fraud started yesterday in Lisbon, Portugal, and will run until 8 July 2022.

The School of Guard together with the Portuguese Guarda Nacional Republicana Fiscal Action Unit organises this training activity, under the umbrella of the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Training (CEPOL).

Generally, the course aims to enhance the fight against excise fraud by exchanging good practices of investigations and by facilitating the use of financial investigative techniques in such cases. The course aims to pay particular attention to illegal tobacco trade and production.

This CEPOL onsite training course has 26 participants from different Member States, such as Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Spain, Slovakia, Slovenia, Finland, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Poland and Portugal.

The course is based on theoretical training sessions given by renowned national and international speakers and trainers whose recognised professional performance reflects the excellence of the teaching-pedagogical environment, belonging to Europol, OLAF, The European Public Prosecutor's Office, Eurojust, the Portuguese Judiciary Police, the Portuguese Tributary and Customs Authority, Philip Morris International, Japan Tobbaco International and from Member States, such as Spain, Hungary, Lithuania and Poland.

These sessions will be materialised both in the theoretical and in the practical component through the application of practical exercises and the approach to several case studies. This will allow the sharing of acquired knowledge and experiences, thus contributing to the formalisation of a unified vision in figthing excise fraud in the European Union.
