CEPOL attends virtual Seminar - Innovation Hub for Internal Security
14 July 2021

CEPOL Head of Operations, Ms Mailis Pukonen, attended on 13 July the virtual Seminar on the Innovation Hub for Internal Security, following the invitation by Mariya Gabriel, Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, and Gilles de Kerchove, EU Counter Terrorism Coordinator.

In the new EU Security Union Strategy, adopted in July 2020, the Commission pledged to explore the possibility to launch an EU Innovation Hub for Internal Security ‘that would seek to deliver common solutions to shared security challenges and opportunities, which Member States might not be able to exploit alone’. The aim of the seminar, in the presence of Vice-President Margaritis Schinas and Ylva Johansson (*), Commissioner for Home Affairs, was to take stock of the progress made so far and look at future opportunities and perspectives.

Research and Innovation are part of the same ecosystem, which are linked by experimenting, prototyping, testing and benchmarking, to transform research results into innovative solutions. The Seminar created a dynamic and stimulating environment for fruitful discussions on how to better exploit existing research efforts and use them to foster innovation and strengthen EU Internal Security.
