CEPOL Management Board meeting kicks off today in Leuven

Within the framework of the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European UnionArrow icon, the 12th CEPOL Management Board (MB) meeting is taking place this week in Leuven (21-22 May). It will be chaired by Ms. Maria Pilar Muniesa Tomás, Head of Sector in the Directorate General of Studies and Coordination of the State Secretariat of Security in the Spanish Ministry of Interior and voting member of the CEPOL MB for Spain.

Today, among other topics, the MB will be updated by the CEPOL Executive Director, Montserrat Marín López, on the agency’s key achievements for 2023. She will also provide an outline of CEPOL’s goals for 2024, with a focus on how the agency plans to address identified gaps in law enforcement training at EU level and enhance its assistance to the EU Member States, within the scope of the 5-year strategy 2023-2027 implementation.

Furthermore, participants will have the opportunity to learn about the latest developments in terms of activities addressing EU internal and external security priorities, and complementing issues, by the Heads of Unit of the EU Training Hub and International Cooperation respectively. Also on the agenda is an important strategic orientation debate that will explore topical elements for the agency’s future, as well as two workshops organised by the Belgian Presidency on cross-border cooperation and information exchange. 

During the meeting, among others, the MB is expected to approve the list of Granted CEPOL Activities for 2025 and the Consolidated Annual Activity Report (CAAR) highlighting the agency’s work in 2023. MB decisions adopted during the meeting will be available soon on the CEPOL website here. Also, the outcomes of proceedings of the 12th MB meeting will be available here.

The next Management Board meeting is expected to take place in November 2024 in Budapest, during the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the EU.
