Latest CT INFLOW training puts focus on access to justice for victims of terrorism

CT INFLOW activity

The voice of victims of terrorism should be heard, and judicial approach towards them has to be multidimensional in order to ensure that their rights are guaranteed. To this end, CT INFLOW organised a four-day regional training from 23 to 26 May in Lebanon on the different perspectives of access to justice for victims of terrorism. In total, 20 judicial and law enforcement representatives from Lebanon, Algeria, Jordan, Morocco and Tunisia joined the event to share experience, good practices and expertise.

The activity focused on the international and regional legal framework related to victims’ rights, prevention of secondary victimisation during investigation and trials, judicial and psychological approach to victims, compensation possibilities in the EU and Middle East and North Africa region, as well as the restorative justice mechanism.

The training also provided an opportunity to participants to exchange experiences on how to identify the needs of victims of terrorism and how to deal with them according to applicable law and in a respectful, sensitive, professional and non-discriminatory manner in order to prevent secondary victimisation.

The representatives of Eurojust, the International Federation of Associations of Victims of Terrorism and the Lebanese Association for Victims of Terrorism, as well as judicial experts from France and Spain supported the activity.
