Threat Assessment Report for MENA region: the road to the next phase of EUROMED Police

The EUROMED Threat Assessment Report, describing the evolution and trends of key criminal threats in the Middle East and North Africa Region, was officially endorsed by the project partners. The approval of the report took place during the last Networks Capacity Building (NCB) workshop on 17-18 January in Budapest, within the framework of the EUROMED Police project.
The report was drafted by analysts from the partner countries, under the mentorship of Europol’s strategic analysists. All the delegates agreed on the findings of the report, which will guide and support future initiatives during the next phase of the EUROMED Police project.
During the workshop, the delegates also validated a training guide on operational and strategic analysis and discussed the content of the online module on strategic analysis, proposing modifications and improvements. The meeting also highlighted the need to develop an exchange system within the Middle East and North Africa region, allowing officers from the South Partner countries to exchange best practices and information on specific crime areas to strengthen the interregional dimension of the next phase of the EUROMED action.
The workshop looked at the achievements and the future of the EUROMED Police project. All delegates agreed to create permanent working groups to develop capacity-building activities on the crime priorities identified by the European Multidisciplinary Platform Against Criminal Threats (EMPACT). The initiative underlines the closer cooperation between the EU and the partner countries of the EUROMED Police project to fight serious and organised crime.
With the participation of Algeria, Jordan, Morocco, the Palestinian Authority, Tunisia and AFRIPOL, the event marked the completion of this type of meetings among EUROMED's capacity and analysis points of contact, aimed at building the nexus between the analysis and the training components of the EUROMED project.
