CEPOL activity on Joint Investigation Teams takes place in Germany

The “Joint Investigation Teams – Implementation” course was delivered from 9–13 March in Trier, Germany, in partnership with the Academy of European Law (Europäische Rechtsakademie – ERA). Joint Investigation Teams (JITs) represent a critical European instrument for conducting coordinated cross-border investigations into the most serious criminal cases.
During this training, 34 law enforcement officers and 11 judges and prosecutors from around 20 EU Member States received comprehensive instruction on how to:
- Establish, operate, manage, and evaluate a JIT;
- Coordinate joint operations and draft JIT agreements;
- Access European funding and operational intelligence support;
- Apply best practices while navigating common challenges in managing multinational teams of investigators.
The course was the result of long-standing collaboration between CEPOL, the JITs Secretariat, Eurojust, Europol, the Academy of European Law (Germany), the National School of Judiciary and Public Prosecution (Poland), and the European Judicial Training Network (EJTN). Trainers from EU agencies and multiple Member States contributed to the programme, which aimed to enhance competences and deepen understanding of the establishment and operation of Joint Investigation Teams.
