CEPOL's darkweb and cryptocurrencies course took place in the French National Cybercrime Training Centre

As referred in the Strategic Training Needs Assessments (STNA), fighting cybercrime is a top priority for the European Union, as well as combatting money laundering and recovering criminal assets. Moreover, darkweb and cryptoassets are very specific and quickly moving fields of investigations, therefore require a denser capability building. As a response to these challenges, CEPOL, in partnership with the French National Cybercrime Training Centre, implemented a dedicated onsite course on darkweb and cryptocurrencies, in Lille (France) from 16 to 20 June 2025.
The training gathered 25 law enforcement representatives from 19 European Member States to learn the basics of darkweb, encryption and online anonymity, and the deep connection with cryptoassets investigation as a way to identify criminals. Using a hands-on and experience sharing approach, it proved to be a real benefit for all participants.
The course benefited from the expertise of professionals representing CEPOL, the Ministry of Interior of France, the Portugal Police and the Belgian Federal Police, all legit senior investigators, providing a wide range of use cases and good practices, enriched by the tailormade training environment created by the Training Centre.
The Bitcoin and Ethereum blockchains implemented by the Training Centre provide the participants with a deep understanding of these blockchains and their major features, live forensics and wallet recovery and seizure.
said Major Jérôme Tabaries, Deputy Head of the French National Cybercrime Training Centre.
