Major General Giancarlo Trotta was born in Portoferraio (LI) on 9 May 1966.

Graduated in Economics from the University of Parma and in Political Science at the University of Trieste, he also holds a Bachelor's and Master's degree in ‘Sciences of Economic and Financial Security', as well as a 2nd Level Master's Degree in “Business Tax Law” at the “Luigi Bocconi” University of Milan.

He joined the Guardia di Finanza on 9th October 1985, as a member of the 85thcourse ‘Cefalonia - Corfù II’ of the Academy and he attended the 32nd Advanced Senior Course in Tax Police, at the end of which he obtained the relevant qualification.

After basic training, he helds positions in operational departments in Veneto and Tuscany, before being transferred to the General Headquarters, where he was in charge of training.

Subsequently, he was assigned to the Guardia di Finanza Academy in Bergamo and then, for more than four years, he served as Provincial Commander in the city of Bergamo.

In July 2011, he returned to General Headquarters as Head of the Office Recruitment and Training Office and in 2014 he was appointed as Provincial Commander of Palermo.

He then served for two years as Liaison Officer between the Ministry of Defence and the General Headquarters, and then from 2021 to 2024 he was appointed Regional Commander of Campania.

From 2018 to April 2024 he was President of the Central Representative Council of both interforce and the Guardia di Finanza.

On 6th March 2025, after a period in which he was designated as Officer in Charge of Project at the General Headquarters, he took over command of the Economic and Financial Police School.
