3007/2025/WEB ‘Tackling threats, addressing challenges - Europol’s response to migrant smuggling’

The aim of this webinar is to offer EU law enforcement officials a clear view of the latest migrant smuggling threats and developments, as well as the challenges law enforcement faces and the responses of EUROPOL – The European Migrant Smuggling Centre (EMSC) in countering this form of serious and organised crime.

By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

• outline the latest threats, developments and modi operandi in migrant smuggling affecting the EU;
• describe key challenges emerging from developments in the criminal environment, in relation to migrant smuggling investigations;
• summarise the methods of cooperation and the support of EUROPOL / EMSC for countering this form of serious and organised crime.

EMPACT training activity

Combating new forms of organised crime requires more cooperation between police and gendarmes, customs officers, border guards, judges, and prosecutors. EU institutions, agencies and Member States work together to tackle organised and serious international crime through a permanent and key instrument: the European Multidisciplinary Platform Against Criminal Threats (EMPACT).

CEPOL plays a crucial role in the EMPACT mechanism through the provision of specialised training and the identification of training needs within each common security threat. Every year, CEPOL provides a comprehensive training package for each common EU crime priority consisting of onsite, online and exchange training activities.
