eLesson

This eLesson provides a science based approach for the assessment of human behaviour and is fully oriented to the promotion of fundamental rights, with a special focus on the non-discrimination principle. The toolkit it offers can be particularly useful for law enforcement officials within the context of migrant smuggling, supporting their efforts to identify criminals and facilitators of this heinous crime.

The eLesson consists of a brief introduction, four topic chapters, a glossary of terms and abbreviations and a job-aid (a downloadable PDF reference document). Users can also check their level of understanding for each topic interactively. A certificate and a badge will be provided to those who successfully complete the eLesson’s quiz.

The four topic chapters of the eLesson are:

1. The importance of behaviour analysis in the context of migrant smuggling: how behaviour analysis can be used to combat migrant smuggling.

2. Multiple-channel analysis: how to identify and understand different signals received through various communication channels.

3. Behaviour assessment – errors and solutions: a summary of reasons why a law enforcement officer might disbelieve truthful accounts or believe lies, as well as good practices and examples of accurate multiple-channel analyses.

4. Facial micro-expressions: a detailed look at how facial micro-expressions can enable law enforcement officers to identify a person’s genuine emotions.

Study time: 60 minutes
