Online Course 2004/2022: Document Fraud

The overall objective of the training activity is to enhance the detection of false documents by better understanding of the design and security features of identity and breeder documents and to combat forgery, counterfeiting and misuse of documents related to serious crime.
After completion of the training activity, participants will be able to:
- Recall the advantages of new technologies and techniques applicable to identify genuine travel documents and document fraud;
- Describe the role of biometrics in travel and identity documents as well as at border crossing points;
- List the elements that support an optimal face comparison;
- Recognise different types of printing, digital output and state-of-the-art digital printing equipment;
- Recall modus operandi in relation to breeder documents;
- Outline key techniques in passengers profiling / behaviour analysis at border control;
- Exchange information via the available international channels, in particular (but not limited to) EUROPOL and Frontex.
The learning process highlights a learner-centred approach and will consist of:
- Independent Learning: reviewing case studies, watching webinars, listening short videos (podcasts), studying reading material, exercises (13 hours)
- Contact Learning via online forums/meetings: interactive presentations, forum discussions with other participants, exchange of good practice (12 hours)
The course will be delivered online over a period of 2 weeks, between 28 November and 11 December 2022. While there is no specific time slot when participants shall be available for completing the course tasks, they should follow the course continuously. This is important, as they will need to exchange their ideas with other participants virtually and complete small tasks/assignments then share the results of these tasks between each other and debate them collectively. During this course, it is important for participants to remain open-minded, active and willing to share their ideas/experience during the learning process. Completion of the course would require approximately 2.5 hours investment / working day from the attending participant during the length of two weeks.
The course will be held entirely in English, therefore it is essential that nominated officials possess appropriate language skills (at least B2 level). The entire activity will be carried out online on CEPOL’s Law Enforcement Education Platform (LEEd), hence the physical presence of participants will not be required.
