CEPOL welcomes new Chair and Deputy Chair to its Management Board

Within the framework of the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the 10th CEPOL Management Board (MB) meeting took place this week in Budapest on 25-26 May 2023. This was the first time since its establishment by Regulation (EU) 2015/2219Arrow icon of the European Parliament and of the Council of 25 November 2015 that the CEPOL MB held an ordinary meeting at the agency’s headquarters in Hungary. Previously meetings were held in the countries holding the EU Presidency.

Chaired by Mr. Philippe Durand, Deputy Head of the International Security Cooperation Directorate of the French Ministry of the Interior, the meeting offered an opportunity for the CEPOL’s Executive to present the agency’s plan towards the implementation of the new CEPOL Strategy.

The participants were updated regarding the latest developments of the CEPOL International Cooperation Projects and the CEPOL Training and Research Unit, as well as the priorities of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the EU. During the meeting, among others, the MB approved the list of Granted CEPOL Activities 2024 and formally adopted the decision to make the Liaison Office in Brussels a permanent structure within CEPOL belonging to the Executive Director’s office. MB decisions that were adopted during the meeting will be available soon on the CEPOL website here.

An important highlight of the meeting was the election of the new Chair and Deputy Chair of the CEPOL Management Board, who will assume their responsibilities on the 1st of July 2023. Ms. Maria Pilar Muniesa Tomás, Head of Sector in the Directorate General of Studies and Coordination of the State Secretariat of Security in the Spanish Ministry of Interior and voting member of the CEPOL MB for Spain, will be the new Chair. Ms. Nikolett Ujfalussy, Deputy Director of the International Training Centre of the Hungarian National Police, and voting member of the CEPOL MB for Hungary, will be the new Deputy Chair. 

The next CEPOL Management Board meeting is planned to be held on 23 and 24 November 2024 in Aranjuez (Spain).
